Assassin-eh-tion is a Canada themed, stealth like, king of the hill game. Players start the game with a target, they have to find their target and kill them. Once you've killed your first target, another one will appear. The game goes in rounds, after the first round whoever has killed the most amount of people is the king and get a crown over their character. After all the rounds have been completed whoever has the crown is the winner.
challenges
IDENTIFICATION: The biggest challenge was definitely trying to make sure that people could identify themselves and their targets on the screen. HappyFunTimes games can get quite hectic, with the amount of players it can be hard to identify yourself. Our game not only had the player searching for themselves, but players had to identify someone else as well. We wanted to try to cut down the amount of assets we had to create. At first, we thought to give players different hats to help identify themselves, but we found pretty quickly that it was to difficult to see the hat with the phone screen. In the end we just had to give in and create more characters, we created 6 different characters, but each had 4-6 color variants.
STEALTH TACTICS: We really wanted stealth to be a main mechanic used by the players, but after watching people play we found that no one was really seeking their target, rather they were just killing anyone they could kill.
post mortem
MORE PLAYTESTING We were definitely over ambitious with our game and so we knew to playtest a lot, we tested the game usually at least 3 times a day, however, our one issue was we never playtested with more than 5 people at a time. We learned that our game broke if more than 10 people tried to play.
BE MORE REALISTIC: In hindsight, the mechanic we chose for our game was not the best idea for the platform we were working on, the mechanic was too complex, involved too many moving parts, and though succeeded in finishing our game (and it technically worked), at the end of the day our the replay ability was low and the mechanic not fun enough.
